Sonya Cotton was born and raised in Princeton, NJ.  She now lives in San Francisco, CA.

She has released three full-length albums: It is so (2011), Red River (2009) and Out of the Ocean (2007).
She has also released an EP of jazz standards with The Sonya Cotton Quartet, (Mike Sempert on piano,
Ezra Lipp on drums, Daniel Fabricant on bass,) entitled More Of You (2012).

Her most recent album, It is so, is a collection of songs dedicated to her mother who passed away in 2009.
Half of the proceeds made from the sale of It is so will be dedicated to The American Bird Conservancy, a non-profit organization whose mission is to "conserve native birds and their habitats throughout the Americas."  (Sonya's mother used to work for this organization.)

Sonya is also a member of the duo Tiny Home, with Gabe Dominguez.  
Tiny Home has released two albums: Tiny Home (self titled, 2011) and Christmas Carols For Our Mothers (2009).
