Here is the podcast we recorded live with Scott McDowell at Hyde Street Studio C in February, 2009, in the very room where we recorded our album, "Red River."

Hunters from Sonya Cotton on Vimeo.

This music video for "Hunters" (a track from my new 2009 album "Red River,") was recorded in the woods and on a lake near my home in New Jersey, with the help of Gabe Dominguez and Lou Sparre (Cinematographer/Director, Electric Tweed Productions.)

My motivation in making this video is to encourage contemplation on the subject of our culture's treatment of animals. From the more indirect forms of violence (such as overdeveloping their habitats, and polluting the resources they depend upon,) to the most targeted (such as hunting/trapping, factory farming, experimenting upon them,) there is no debating that we are responsible for a great deal of suffering. It seems that many of us respect and feel reverence towards animals in our hearts, but perhaps we have become too disconnected from this place of reverence to consider our actions more critically. "For finally only reverence can restrain violence, violence against nature, violence against one another." -William Sloane Coffin
We so often avert our eyes from sights that make us uncomfortable; this video aims to pause there upon those sights for a while. The animals seen in this video were found dead by the roadside.
